TwoThreeSixFive!

This post was done for twothreesixfive, a blog documenting people's lives between their RL and Sl lives. Check it out at: http://twothreesixfive.wordpress.com/

December 15th, not one of my favorite days of the year. See, this is the day my mother died, the day I had to go to the hospital with my brother and my fairly recent step-father, say good bye and turn off the machines on the most vibrant person I had ever known. They all cried and I was just numb, but I had been numb for hours, since the call right before an anthropology final that she was in a coma. Numb through the rushed flight to Utah from Texas. Numb to the hospital. And then looking at that small body, dead due to Hepatitis C, the body that just looked like a shell. Numb for many months afterwards.

Christmas is not my favorite time of year, but my mom sent me a gift, a little boy to make sure I always have a reason to smile at the holidays. And now he is four, really excited about Santa and snow and reindeers and OMG, Christmas lights! He loves Christmas lights. After being convinced to put up *one more* strand of lights, I read the six books he coaxes me into and finally get the elf to bed.

Finally, some time for the rest of my family, my partner Lucius, and the ragtag family we have picked up along the way that call Mists of Haven home. All former goreans, now we are just family, the Pack, the Foxrose Clan. We run around our sim, laughing, picking on each other, dancing the night away and planning future adventures and roleplay avenues. All of us are individuals in RL, with the lives that get replicated across the world. Yet in SL we have found deep and lasting friendships and family we just can’t live without. We back up each other, defend each other, love each other.

SL started out as a class project in cyber anthropology, then it became the way for a single mom & student to have her adult life and interactions. Then a way for me to explore my storytelling and creative sides. Now it holds my extended family, the ones who keep me sane on this lousy day.

About Jadxia Lexenstar: She holds a degree in Cultural Anthropology, a Texan transplanted to beautiful Oregon. She is the single mother to a too smart four year old, who keeps her delightfully young. The other RL family includes a nephew who lives with her, a fat cat named Harley. Her SL exploits vary, but she is the owner of SkyClad Creations, blogs occasionally on Cookies & Roleplay (http://www.cookiesnroleplay.blogspot.com/) , bribes her friends and family with cookies, and spends most nights coaxing her partner to dance with her.

A Little Fae-ness.....

Well, after a fun fae-filled party in which I wore a cute little number by Delora Starbrook of Haven Designs, I realized it was too good of an outfit to not blog! So I introduce Attica! An outfit perfect for fae, or humans who just like to hide in the forest...and look a bit dangerous.......*grins evilly*

Delora always uses beautiful textures and comes up with some of the most fun designs that can range anywhere in either roleplay or mainstream or theme parties or well.......you get the idea. Attica comes with a cute top tied aroudn the body, a skirt designed to look handmade with leaves and scarves, and a cute demi-cloak with additional leaves for accents. Add in the woven leaf bracelets and anklets, and the outfit is complete, ready to help anyone blend into a earthy, forestry scene.

Attica comes in six different colors, besides the green I am wearing for the shoot, there is black, brown, indigo, pink and red. As always, her clothes are mod, making adjusting for your body frame and style very easy. Plus if you are a member of her update group, there's a discount involved in it for you!!!!

Jadxia..No, Seriously!

I speak no lie! The beautiful dress is from Sakinah, another one of Syngen's creations, and one she decided had to be named for me.....insert HUGE blush here.......So how can I not blog about my dress??

The story behind this dress is rather simple. Needing a fun break from Gor and it's rigidity, we decided to create a small roleplay area, loosely based on the Mists of Avalon series. We made it a freeform rp area, no real rules except to respect one another, and just have fun roleplaying. Complete with an area for those humans, and one for us more magical beings. Well, in the idea brainstorming phase, Syngen created this beautiful dress, one that is, as the sim, loosely based off the Mists of Avalon, with her own middle eastern flair. Gods, I love her stuff!

Rich, gorgeous, luxurious colors, available in blue, black, cream and red. Syngen's signature skirt that flows so naturally I can stare at it for hours. Arm ties for the daringly cut sleeves, deep neck and back lines, the same intricate detail you always can expect from a Sakinah creation.

And just for all of you still in Gor: As always, I found a way to "Gor it up" for you! Add in an undershirt of your choice (I chose Dream Fantasia's Gem-Toned Undershirts) and play with the coloring a bit to match the dress, I went with a darker bronze. Add a veil...and a hood if you want .....again, I went with Dream's Scripted Veil set.....and tada ........you are fit for Gor!

And while you could say I am a bit biased with this dress, the truth still applies...Syngen has once more captured the beauty in fabric and textures that very few can......

Shoe Fair 2010 and a Change of Paths...

Ok, so the blog has a new name, and a new path to travel down. As I am no longer fully immersed in Gorean roleplay except for the occassional foray, I still wanted a way to highlight my favorite Gorean designers, and be able to blog about some of their more mainstream and their other designs in non-Gorean roleplay clothing. Plus....I had another blog talking and giving out my tips for survival in the RL, like kids happy snacks and drinks and such. And well, my goal this year has been to simply my life. Look at it deeply, slim down and trim down what I can and live a simply happier life so I can do all the things I love to do, without feeling rushed or guilty if something slacked.....

So here came Cookies & Roleplay!

Why Cookies? Well, meet me once, or talk to my friends, and the best prescription I have for everything is cookies.....even in Second Life. And Roleplay, well simply cause I still roleplay. I love roleplay, and that will never disappear out of my life.

So the name just created itself: Cookies & Roleplay.....

Now, Shoe Fair 2010! I went, I saw, I loved, and I am not even a shoeaholic! However, the thing is I am not a shoeaholic...but when you go, you HAVE to go by Zaara, her new shoes, a required buy! And great slippers for a Gorean Free Woman....I'll blog about that later.....

Delora Starbrook, with the help of my friend Syngen and others, created an awesome, rustic 4 sim complex of American Heartland. Barns and silos....bails of hay and milkcans. Believe me, sooo worth the trip. The Shoe Fair this year donates to Soles4Souls ( http://www.soles4souls.org/ ) which is a wonderful organization that for one US dollar, can provide a new or gently worn pair of shoes to those in need.

So please, even if you arent a shoeaholic, go to the Shoe Fair, and if you dont spend all you budgeted for shoe purchases, find one of those awesome milkcans and dump the rest of the Lindens in. Because while we can buy plenty of shoes in Second Life, there are way too many people in RL who cant purchase even one pair for themselves, much less an avatar.

Uniquely Colorful

There are a wide range of camisks and slutty clothes to choose from these day, colors and design range the rainbow, from tattered cloth to flashly glowy silks. And while the larger stores are always a favorite, fun to see what they will come out with next, sometimes you find that small, hole in the wall store, that just makes you gasp in excitement. And you have to wonder, "How did I not find this before!"

So was my reaction when on the advice of my Master's Lady, I entered the shop of the Virgin Harlot, featuring the creations of Ceri Kesten. Most people know her for her creations of oddities, like blood splatteed butcher's aprons, and the Lady Jax's ink splotched cheek. But Kajirae! You have to, have to check out her clothes!

First up: Jayde! This camisk with a simple belt is colorful and the design simply stunning as it mixes a brightness with a bit of ethnic decorative flair.

The mix of colors you see here are exciting, and are something that has become a trademark for her clothing.

The next one up is one similar in the style of Jayde and that is Joclyn. Again, nice bright colors with a hint of ethnic design to bring out the style and colors in the camisk.

Gorgeous coloring and design. Can't help it, even a smaller chest kajira like me can look like I have just enough bosom in a camisk from the Virgin Harlot! And the shading draws a Master's eye to all the right spots! *winks*

See, I had soooo much fun in the Virgin Harlot, I just couldn't pick one outfit to feature. Luckily, with the coin the Lady Jax entrusted to me, instead of getting one outfit, I was able to pick up several! Being rich is not a requirement to shop at the Virgin Harlot, especially this beauty, Love, which I found for 25L!

Beautiful pinks, coaxing any kajira to happily hop out of the caste colors of her Master and wear something a bit more eye catching and daring!

Love will guarentee that you will fall in love with the Virgin Harlot the moment you walk in! Take a hop on down!

Comfy Nights

While a Free Woman stay properly dressed all day, when at home at night, whether Companioned or not, in the safety of her home and her room, there exists a chance to lighten the load of clothing. Now most Gorean designers either do dresses for the Free Woman or the wild range of rags and styles for the kajirae, with a rare smattering of option for the men. But in a stroke of luck, Dream Fantasia of Fantasia has designed the perfect nightgown for the Free Woman: Nightfall.

Long flowing slender skirts that come up to just below the chest, a sharp V plunging neckline, elbow length wide sleeves and strong colors make this nightgown just right for coaxing that Companion to come do his duty for providing children for the Homestone......

...... or for a simple night of reading.......

This nightgown can also be easily turned into a day dress for the Free Woman, by simply adding Fantasia's color change veil & hood set and the jewel-toned undershirt set! Nightfall has all the makings of being a vital piece to any Free Woman's wardrobe!

Traveling Free

Tis a common concept that the Free Women of Gor were safer within the walls of their own homes and cities, though at times, depending on the reason, the Free Woman finds herself in a position of needing to travel. This would be either to find a new home, or meet with other Merchants, attend a Faire, any such reason would present the need for clothes other then normally worn by the woman. Which is why it is always wonderful to have that set or two of traveling gear: decent, modest, covering everything as much as can be, and in some situations, disguising the real woman beneath the veils....

This week features one of my favorite creators, Syngen Sohmers of Sakinah, and her newest creation Inaya. Syn has been one of my favorite designers for a long time, specializing in medieval/roleplay clothing as well as modest, modern clothing for the Second Life Muslima.

Inaya sits on the fence, really working well in both worlds, requiring only a veil to complete the transition to the closet of a pretentious Free Woman, traveling along the roads, searching her path in the rough world.

The  Inaya creation comes with the standard shirt, pants, and skirt along with a perfectly sculpted hood, a scarf that works beautifully to add the layered look both on the front and the back of the torso with fringe you truly expect to catch drifting with the winds, and bracelet sets designed to match the silver belt detailed on the front of the skirt.

One of the things I have always loved about Sakinah creations is the slim line skirts, a definite improvement over the fluffy ballgown skirts that were previously the only option available to the Free Women of SL Gor. The skirt of Inaya follows the same lines, slim, perfectly flowing, and always determined to make me sit and watch the swirl of the skirts. I swear, Syngen does it on purpose, it is mesmerizing, they flow so damn naturally!

As always, Syngen knocks it out of the park, creating one more perfect dress to add to any Free Woman's closet. One can never go wrong with Sakinah!
